    While each participant in the Patagonian Expedition Race experiences their own personal drama, for Chelsey and Jason Magness, the 2010 race was especially exciting. After battling through the brutal landscapes to nab 3rd place for team YogaSlackers (previously known as GearJunkies), the then-boyfriend and girlfriend were relieved and elated to mount the podium at the closing ceremony. Jason, however, had one more surprise up his sleeve. He began his acceptance speech with the standard tribute to his team’s strength and camaraderie before suddenly dropping to one knee and asking Chelsey to marry him.

    She said “yes.” Since then, the two adventurers haven’t looked back. Along with fellow 2010-teammate Daniel Staudigel, the three went on to compete in the next 3 Patagonian Expedition races, finishing 2nd in 2011, 3rd in 2012, and 3rd again in 2013. Their racing style is unconventional, taking bold and unknown paths through the Darwin Range, and sometimes rafting rivers on their inflatable sleeping pads. This February, Alexandre Provost from Canada will join them as the team’s fourth member. Going against seasoned competitors East Wind and Team GODZone Adventure, in addition to both the volatile Patagonian climate and the strong 2016 field, more surprises are sure to be in store this year.
