British Team, GODZone Adventure Team, previously known as Team Adidas TERREX, is far and away the most successful team ever to compete in the Patagonian Expedition Race. With a rotating cast of members, the team has won a staggering 5 consecutive editions. Now, coming back in pursuit of their 6th title, the question is less whether GODZone can maintain their success, and more whether any other team has the potential to break their streak and take the top spot.
In a previous interview with NIGSA, Nick Gracie explained that his desire to return was partially a desire to continue the winning streak. “The main reason to go back is to try to retain the title,” he said, “because if I win I want to go back and win it again!” But Gracie also cited the sheer beauty of the Patagonian landscape. “People always ask me where’s the best place to go, and I would say without a shadow of doubt Chilean Patagonia is the most beautiful place I’ve raced. In fact, it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been on the planet… it’s just so, so, big, so epic.”
Gracie was on the winning Adidas TERREX team in 2011, 2012, and 2013. He will be joined by previous opponent Jari Hiatt, who finished second to Adidas Terrex in 2009 with the French Team ‘Easy Implant,’ which will provide the team additional experience in their pursuit of another first-place finish. The last two team members, Warren Bates and Chris Hope, will be competing in their first Patagonian Expedition Race, but with a 2009 win in the Adventure Racing World Championships for Bates and substantial adventure racing experience for Hope, the two will be vital assets in GODZone‘s pursuit of continued success in 2016.
