The sun is shining down at the southern edge of the world today. It's been shining a lot this week, which means any of us having arrived from winter climates are now sporting the same rosy glow as a sunburn. As welcomed as the sun is the arrival of all our teams! With only a bag or two missing, all the teams have arrived, passed the gear check, and are now in the final stages before the race. |

As the Chilean team arrives in Punta Arenas, the airport is filled with local press and baggage carousels loaded with bikes and more The North Face logos than a Denver shopping outlet. Also arriving today is the youngest team: Pata-Gonna-Get-Ya. They are representing the UK this year along with last year's winners, Alcatel-Adidas. The Dancing Pandas team from the US was spotted in the luggage claim today with the third Brazilian team in tow. The rosters are almost complete and gear checks are well underway as teams begin organizing their food drops and race strategy. All the teams are expected to be arriving before the opening ceremony on Sunday evening. |

Here at NIGSA the news about racing team arrivals is trickling in one hour at a time. Shipments of food supplies and race gear are showing up at our office doors, and check point crews eyeball the goods hungrily, knowing they'll be surviving on a diet of pasta and pate while out in the field. The race teams themselves appear to survive mostly on bar snacks, orange juice, chocolate, and insanity. |

Punta Arenas, Chile: There’s a change in the city. A quiet town meandered by backpacking tourists and the odd offloading of cruise ships is noticing the arrival of a different kind of crowd. One plane at a time, athletes, film crews, and journalists from around the world are filtering into the city for the tenth anniversary of the Patagonian Expedition Race. |

It was an amazing race. It is an amazing chance to explore Patagonia in depth, on your own, in an adventurous environment. It certainly met my expectations, and the fact we managed to win it blew them away! And I know that I speak for many of the competitors here when I tell you that I can’t wait to come back.
