After crossing through PC 9 at 20:48 on the 17th, they came into PC 11 at 11:35am on the 18th. What awaits them now is arguably the most difficult section of the course, that when combined with accumulated fatigue, hunger, and injuries is an giant test to any racers mental conditioning. However, this British and Kiwi team use a unique skill set to tackle the Patagonia wilderness.

Patagonian Expedition Race enters into Critical Phase

The race has now split into three parts with a hard-charging group led by Adidas TERREX Prunesco opening up a strong advantage after the final bike stage, as they enter the complicated route through the Cordillera Darwin. About 5 hours behind (without time adjustment) are East Wind and GearJunkie YogaSlackers. A second group comprising Kauri, Cyanosis, Selva-Kailash, Vaucluse-Lafuma and Cuva are filtering through the transition from bike to trek, and obviously hoping to make it onto the complicated ropes section in the Valle Profundo while it's still light.

The Brazilian teams ‘Go Crazy’ and ‘Quasar Lontra Master Tapuia’, along with the American ‘Discovery & Research’ and Finnish ‘Ulkoilun Maailma’ teams were the first group to leave the race course and arrive back in Punta Arenas.
